Orchestra Programs & Camps

For the students who perform well in the Festival, the judges will 'rank' the performers in each festival session.  This list will be sent to the various string camp administrators for them to decide on recruitment and scholarships.  Other summer music camps and/or orchestra programs may or may not request this same list.  It will be available to them, but it is their prerogative whether or not to employ this list for recruitment and scholarships.

Offering scholarships for Rank 1 & 2 in UVSF. Ages 7-17

Guest Artist: Jenny Oaks Baker

Based on audition, participants are placed in one of three ensembles. See Admissions page for full details on which ensemble is right for you. The Jenny Oaks Baker Workshop is held in conjunction with LMFY on AHS Campus. Violinists and violists who wish to enroll in the Workshop may do so during certain enrichment times

Also included are enrichment classes (Cello & Bass Choir, Art & Pottery, African Drums & Percussion), and sectionals.

Idaho's Harriman State Park. 
Run by BYU-Idaho faculty.

Offering multiple partial-tuition scholarships.  2019 tuition $725 by April 30. Then $775 until May 31. After May 31, $825. See website for deadline and details.

Ages 14-18, but will take 13 year olds if skill and maturity are developed enough.  Each student participates in a small ensemble (quartet or quintet), string chamber orchestra, and a fiddling ensemble.  Private lessons also available.  Bass players wanted.

July 15-19, 2019
Rehearsals are 9am-1pm daily
Concert is on Friday, July 19 at 6pm
Located at the Highland City Community Center
Large ensemble conducted by Logan McKinney
Sectional rehearsals daily with kind and helpful coaches
Opportunities to work additionally in small ensemble groups
Tuition is $95 for the entire week!

Ages 12-18.  A day camp (9am-1pm)
Daily sectionals with a fantastic coach.  String students who are playing at ASTA levels 3-4 and are comfortable with shifting and vibrato will be a good fit for this program. Suzuki books 4-7 or Barber books 2-3).

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS for Rank 1 & 2 in UVSF. Ages 4-19

Guest Conductor: Dr. Douglas Pew, assoc. director of Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra. Final concert in WCJH concert hall with guest artist Alex Melecio.

Four string orchestra levels which will all work with Dr. Pew on symphonic orchestra literature. Top orchestra plays 1812 Overture with real cannons, Mission Impossible film music, Brandenburg 3, the original!!

Suzuki Children’s Orchestra, Book One, ages 4-9, must play D Major Scale, parent attends with student.

Also included with fun rehearsals and sectionals are enrichment classes (you choose: Fiddling, Cello Choir, String Quartet, Bass Ensemble, TWO Youth Choruses).
